It’s Summer Time!!
If you are out and about with your children over the holidays, you will want those children to have lots to do and be well entertained. A walk in your local conservation area or around a campgrounds or play at the park is lots of fun with exercise and fresh air. Having your children help prepare the snacks is a great way to include them in eating healthy in a fun way!

Pam's Trail Mix
One handful of raisins
One handful of sunflower seeds
Half a handful of chocolate chips
One handful of Crispix
One handful of Cornbran Squares
Place all ingredients in a plastic Ziploc bag, and take along with you!
Other variations – mixed nuts, dried fruit, different cereal
Another way to have fun and keep them entertained is by silly songs. You can sing this song and do lots of rhyming fun that will teach literacy skills without your children even knowing you are teaching them!
There’s a Spider on….
There is a spider on my head, on my head
There is a spider on my head, on my head
Oh dread! There is a spider on my head
There is a spider on my head, on my head
There is a spider on my Knee, on my Knee
There is a spider on my Knee on my Knee
Oh Gee! There is a spider on my Knee
There is a spider on my Knee, on my Knee
To make this song come alive, make your own spider puppet. Paint a Styrofoam ball black, give him eight black pipe cleaner legs, and some googly eyes. Attach a string so you can dangle him over your child as you sing the song!

Filling time can sometimes be a trick, here is a fun craft that can last;
Pet Rocks
What You'll Need:
Rock
Acrylic craft paint
Suggestion decorations: yarn, wiggle eyes, markers, glitter glue, sequins, beads, pom poms, etc
White craft glue
Start by washing your rock with warm soapy water. Choose a rock that is not jagged and if it has nooks and crannies, use a scrub brush to get all the dirt out. Decorate your rocks however you like using just about anything. If it will stick, use it!
If the children are feeling creative, here is an activity that takes very few supplies and cleans up with a good rain:
Painting With Sidewalk Chalk
You’ll need a bright sunny day, a relatively clean sidewalk or driveway, various colours of sidewalk chalk, water, a container to put water in, and lots of creativity!
Here’s what you do!
1. Fill a container with water.
2. Give the children various colours of sidewalk chalk.
3. Have the children dip their chalk into the water.
4. Allow the children to draw pictures of whatever they like.
5. Stand back and admire their artwork!
Great ideas for lots of Summer time Fun!! Have a safe and enjoyable summer!
