Perth Care for Kids

Perth Care For Kids is a non-profit community agency, governed by a twelve member, volunteer Board of Directors.  The board members and employees of Perth Care For Kids are committed to supporting the importance of education and development in early childhood by offering a variety of flexible, quality programs and services for children, families and caregivers.

Philosophy

The Philosophy of Perth Care for Kids is to provide high quality child care in a safe, healthy and positive environment. Through varied play experiences and the guidance of specially trained staff, each child will be exposed to situations that will stimulate:           curiosity, initiative and independence

self esteem and decision making capabilities

                        interaction and respect for others

physical activity developing gross motor skills

                        communication skills and

                        fine motor development

At Perth Care For Kids we provide a stimulating program, enhancing development of the whole child, while instilling a positive feeling of self worth in each child.  We are proud to provide a place where families with children are welcomed and children are allowed the opportunity to learn through play and interaction with others.

Program Development

Programs are evaluated regularly to reflect changes with ideologies on Early Childhood Education. Emergent Curriculum is a play-based learning program that builds on the interests of the child.  It is a way for children to learn in a warm, nurturing environment, through their actions, relationships and the opportunities provided.  The daily experiences offered are based on the children’s investigations. Areas in each program provide opportunities for the child’s interest to grow along with their developmental skills.  Children are able to experience a variety of different play materials in various learning centres.  Daily routines include free flowing transitions throughout the day.  Program plans that are stimulating and developmentally appropriate are prepared and facilitated by the teachers. Teachers are trained to recognise and support the physical, social and emotional needs of each child. Program plans and Schedules are posted in each program to provide further details.

Staff Qualifications

Perth Care for Kids teachers are graduates of a two year Early Childhood Education college program or have an equivalency status granted by the Ministry of Education.   Those with their Early Childhood Education Diploma must be registered with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators. All staff are required to provide a Criminal Reference background check, a Children's Aid background check, and an up to date immunization record.  In addition, all staff are required to have and maintain First Aid training. On-going workshops are provided for staff to add to their knowledge base and keep their qualifications current.  At PCFK, we encourage staff to develop to their full potential ensuring maximum effectiveness of the program, as well as promoting a positive view of early childhood education to the community.

Child Care Programs

Perth Care For Kids Child Care Center located in Mitchell offers 67 licensed spaces for children ages 3 months to pre-kindergarten age.  Our programs allow children the opportunity to develop and grow in a warm, nurturing, safe environment.

Our Infant Program accommodates infants 3 months to approximately 18 months.  While the emphasis is placed on meeting individual schedules, group outings, play time, sensory activities and songs fill the rest of their day.  The Toddler Program, designated for children 18 months to approximately 2.5 years is a program where little ones have the opportunity for exploring the environment through many hands on activities.  The Preschool Program, for children 2.5 years to pre-kindergarten, promotes overall development by building on their interests and natural curiosity of the world around them.  We have an additional 24 licensed spaces for children in our Kindergarten Program, for children in either junior or senior kindergarten, at our Ritz Hall location, also in Mitchell.  This program offers a play based environment that compliments their existing school schedules, while fostering their independence.

Both full-time and part-time care is available, though presently there is an extensive waiting list for most of our childcare programs, including Before and After School.

For more information, or to add your child's name to the waiting list,
